Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Right now everybody is thinking about their New Year’s resolutions.

A New Year’s resolution is just a goal or set of goals that you set at the beginning of the new year. If setting resolutions doesn't work, can you make your goals work?

Cliff says to follow this 4-step plan to achieve your goals:

  1. Believe it’s possible.
  2. Write it down.
  3. Tells others about it.
  4. Work the plan as it become available to you.

Do you have a belief system problem?  A belief is a thought that we feel certain is true.

Want, need or should -will get you in a place where you will set a goal and see a result from it, but not long term.

Cliff teaches the T-E-A-R formula.

T- Thoughts

E- Emotions

A- Actions

R- Result

You can change your beliefs, even if you have believed something is true from childhood.

Never give up on your goals.

We don't get to decide when things happen in our lives, like obstacles. We do get to choose what we do with those obstacles and what we make out of them. Perhaps these obstacles are the path to what you really want.

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

In 1996, for the first and only time in my entire life – I was fired from a job. I had been recruited by Citadel Broadcasting to move to Salt Lake City and do the morning show. I moved my little family from Knoxville TN to Utah. We fell in love with Utah and her people.  And then, three months after I started, I was fired. All I could think, as I looked at my wife’s tear-stained face, was, “What have I done?”

Book – The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday

The Obstacle is not IN your way. – the obstacle IS the way.

5 Ways The Obstacle AS the Way Changes You

  1. Takes you from a catastrophe thinker to a possibility thinker.
  2. Removes mental blocks to creative solutions.
  3. Encourages faith in the future to arise.
  4. Elevates your mood and decreases cortisol levels.
  5. Allows you access to your best internal resources – and most importantly your internal resourcefulness.

Questions to Ask When You Encounter What May LOOK Like An Obstacle

If I believed the obstacle was actually the path to what I seek, how would I behave? What would I be thinking? What would I be doing?

What does this make possible?

What does this mean?

What might be the long-range benefits of this?

What can I learn from this?

How can I use this?

  • Are you in the Matrix? Will you choose the blue pill or the red pill. Wake up to reality or stay in the illusion?
  • Are you doing the same thing every day over and over again. Do you need to break this cycle?
  • I signed up for Michael Hyatt’s Best Year Ever Program and this program was different, and it helped me make some decisions to change my life.

Are You Struggling With Your Copy? I Can Help You…

What Is Symphonic Copywriting?

Remember Senior Prom in High School?

You're dressed to the nines and rented a limo to pick up your date. Your tuxedo and bow tie are strangling you half to death, but you catch a glimpse of your slick self in the rear-view mirror. “Dang… I'm lookin' good!”

And wow, your girl looks amazing in her sky-blue prom dress. Her eyes are sparkling like sapphires and she gives you ‘the look'! Mama mia!

As you escort your beautiful date (man… how did I get so lucky?) into the dance, the band starts to play…

Aaahhh! THAT'S OUR SONG!” She says.

Perfect timing! How did the band know?!

“May I have this dance?” You say with a little bow.

All the excitement, all the emotion, all the fire of young love burns inside you both as you grab hands and head out to the dance floor.

You were in the right place at the right time and the band played your tune. You HAD to dance! You were primed and ready.

THAT'S Symphonic Copywriting!

I can help you compose your marketing messages so they resonate with your customer's like a tuning fork on steroids. You'll be singing their tune!

Yes, I’m quitting.

I’m quitting all the things that make me stressed, unhappy — anything that makes me or others miserable.

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Spiritual Foundations

Jesus talked about serving God and serving riches, but he did not condemn money. Read what he said in Matthew 6:24.

Feature Presentation

Here’s a list of some things I’m quitting:

  • Worry
  • Anxiety
  • Doubt
  • Depression
  • Jealousy
  • Anger
  • Addiction
  • Compulsion
  • Manipulation
  • Comparison
  • Competition
  • Deception
  • Fear
  • Violence
  • Revenge
  • Punishment

The 3 most important things I am quitting:

1. Caring what other people think of me.
2. Expecting other people, places, or things to be responsible for my happiness.
3. Putting off my happiness until “someday when”. There is no someday. There is no when. There is only now.

A few thoughts about quitting…

I say “I am quitting” and not “I quit” because I recognize it’s a process, not an event. Do I still expect to experience these feelings or behaviors (“behavior” the doing part of feeling)? Yes, I will no doubt still experience them. But I am “quitting” my identification with these things. Let me explain what I mean by “identification”…

I am not surprised when I feel anxiety, anger, or fear. However, I no longer identify with these things. I don’t say, “I am angry” – that is inaccurate. It is more accurate to say, “I feel the emotion of anger”.

What is the difference? The world.

When I realize that I am NOT my feelings, I become impervious to them. They cannot pierce my flesh, nor can they lacerate my heart.

I may experience a moment of fear, but it cannot attach to me – it passes through me and I disregard it. Including the fear of death. It has been said that a man who knows how to live, has no place for death to enter.

You might understandably ask if I don’t care what other people think, then why am I even writing this? Why am I pressing the “publish” button?

For myself. I am my audience. I write what I want to read.

Because doing so seems fun, and possibly helpful (mostly to me, but if you benefit, that’s cool too).

So now you know THAT I’m quitting, and you know WHAT I’m quitting.

How about you?

Today I’m sharing 3 Things I Learned from Jeff Walker at LaunchCon. I just returned from a week in Orlando where we held our ESP Certified Copywriter Workshop. (Link: www.rayedwards.com/espcc)

Shortly thereafter, we attended LaunchCon with Jeff Walker.

Spiritual Foundations

Today’s Spiritual Foundation is about having faith and trusting God.

  • How worried or stressed are you?
  • How often do you have to remind yourself to trust God about these things?
  • Do you let go of your worries and release them all to Him?
  • Are you actually letting them go?

In Mathew 21:22, Jesus said, “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

In Mark 11:24 He says, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

So just let go, and let God

Tip of The Week

My tip of the week is the Canon 6D. It is an incredible camera. It has a full frame, super high resolution and gives you a much better picture.  It is a great camera, but it is too heavy if you are carrying it around for the entire day, so what do I suggest?  Even have a vlog, you don’t need a giant camera. You can still have excellent video and picture with a tiny camera like the Canon M50.  This is a great camera, and your arm and neck will thank you for carrying this around instead.

Feature Presentation

3 Things I Learned from Jeff Walker:

  1. We might want to explore being kinder to ourselves.
  2. What you believe about your capability is true.
  3. There is no time BUT the present. If you want to make a change, you have to do it now.

If you are thinking about making a change, do it right now. In fact, do this exercise.

  • Write down 5 things that you want.
  • How many of those things are things that you already have?
  • Now, write down 5 things that you want that you already have.

Remember what Jesus said? “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

To change: Stop wanting and do it now.

This week I am talking to Lee Cockerell. He is the former executive vice president of operations for the Walt Disney World resort. As the Senior Operating Executive for 10 years, Lee led a team of 40,000 cast members.

He was responsible for the operations of 20 resort hotels, 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, a shopping and entertainment village, the ESPN sports and recreation complex, in addition to the ancillary operations which supported the number one vacation destination in the world.

That is just a portion of his list of accomplishments and the things Lee Cockerell has been able to do.

Now Lee is helping other folks learn to create Disney magic. He’s doing public speaking, and he’s written four books.

Some of the reasons Lee has been so successful is that he is so disciplined and very organized.

Lee shares that by hiring better with more clarity, they train better, and have a better culture. He boils that down to “hire right, train them right, and treat them right” and the people will do a good job for you.

He teaches others how to “hire slow and fire fast” so companies are more successful. Combined with his principles of time management, Lee imparts wisdom for organization and dealing with the world.

For more from Lee, go to www.leecockerell.com or check out one of his books.

Spiritual Foundations

Some people who are super religious about foul language, and through I think there is a better way to express yourself than using profanity, there are a few passages in the Bible that I feel are misrepresented using profanity.

Ephesians 4: 29 says

“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”

The dictionary says that “corrupt” means having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly for personal or financial gain.

This sounds like it is talking about the morals of the person, not using foul language.

Edification means it is something that would be improving you and building up of the soul.

So this to me means that you are not to let anything that encourages people to be immoral or that demeans people, controls people, or steals their money. Tell them things that lifts them up and fills them. Say things that impart grace to people. Jesus said “They will know that you are my disciples, by your love for one another” This is something to think about.

Feature Presentation “The One Thing That Changes Everything”

Can one thing really revolutionize your life, double your income or simplify your life?

Even though I had so many distractions that could have derailed my year, the one thing kept me on track and get to this place where I have had my best year yet.

There is always 1 thing that we want, and when we can identify it, everything else will change. You just need to decide it.

You need to decide to not make too many decisions.

Gary Keller’s book, “The One Thing”, tells you how to find that one thing you need to do to change your life or business. Read his book and decide what is the one thing and focus on it.

Finding out what the one thing for you can be difficult. It is different for everyone and can take years of trial and error.

Here is what you do.

Sit quietly and close your eyes and breathe deep and relax.  Take all the stress, guilt, pain you exhale out and leave it there. Just be in the moment where you are and ask “what is the one thing I am meant to be doing right now”.Pay attention to what you hear. The thing that comes into your head is the thing you should do.  It is going to be totally different than what you have been doing your whole life. You may need to change what you are doing now and start doing the thing that you feel most drawn to, even if it means changing your entire life. I know it is scary and can be so difficult because it involves other people, but you do need to do this. You will not be happy and have great success until you do.

A lot of people think that if you run a business, in order to do good, you need to give your money away…but that is not what the Bible says.

Tip Of The Week

Feature Presentation “The One Hour Launch”

Stu Mclaren told me I needed to get my Permission to Prosper message out, and Pete Vargas was the one who could help me do.

Pete was influenced by speakers on stage when he was young, and he wanted to be able to influence people for the good, too, and so he developed “The One Hour Launch”. This is the best way to get your message in front of more people and give them your message all at once, instead of waiting for them to spend a year finishing your course, or podcast, etc… You have a captivated audience for an entire 60 minutes, and they are far more impacted by what you are saying while you are on a stage. Your message is important and was put there for a reason, so get out there and share it. Even if you do not want to be a speaker that is on stage all the time, that is okay. You just need to do it a few times a year, and you will still be building your business and getting your message out. Pete will help you outline your signature talk and show you how to use online and offline stages. Check out more here: www.rayedwards.com/AYR

2 Corinthians 5:16 New King James Version (NKJV)
“16 Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

What is Paul saying? If anyone is in Christ, you are a new creation. This is a BIG deal.

Everything was created by God and God has reconciled to us through Jesus the Messiah and God has given us the gift of the ministry of reconciliation.

Feature Presentation “Why Every Business Is A Writing Business”

5 Reasons Why Every Business Is a Writing Business

  1. All business is founded on the principle of communicating that we have a solution to a problem that they think they have.
  2. There are more and less effective methods of communication.
  3. Writing is the doing part of thinking and thinking without writing is fantasizing.
  4. In an over-communicated world, your communication must be more precise, powerful and persuasive than ever before.
  5. Because of the noise, you must be able to communicate your value with simplicity, sincerity, and sizzle.

Zig Zigler said the process of selling it simply the transference of enthusiasm. When you believe in something, you can sell it easier.

Mistakes come in many forms. Some are humorous like the furniture store that unwittingly offered, “Free: one night stand, when you purchase a bed!” Or the church marquee that read, “Don’t let worries kill you, let the church help.”  But other blunders, often the ones we commit ourselves, are anything but funny.

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Perhaps you can identify with some of these:

  • Missing an appointment with a client
  • Sending someone the wrong product
  • Showing up late for an important meeting
  • Calling someone by the wrong name
  • Sending out an email with typos in it
  • Confidently stating something publicly, only to discover later you were wrong
  • Drawing a complete blank when meeting someone who insists they know you
  • Failing to make a payment on time to an affiliate or contractor
  • Finding out that you’ve offended someone

And sometimes much more serious blunders occur with significant consequences. For instance, in the Clinton—Lewinsky scandal in the 90s, then-President Bill Clinton committed a huge moral blunder in his sexual encounters with Monica Lewinsky. If those weren’t bad enough, what really upset the public was his blatant lies and twisting of the truth under oath. The more he lied, the greater the scandal became. Consequently, he lost all respect, integrity, and trust with the American people, resulting in his impeachment.

Spiritual Foundations

Tony Robbins says that It's not a mistake if you learn from it. What does the Bible say about making mistakes?

“For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.” Proverbs 24: 16

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” Philippians 3:12

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.  Only let us live up to what we have already attained.” –Philippians 3:14-16

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”- Isaiah 43: 18-19

Feature Presentation “How to Recover From Big Mistakes Gracefully”

While this is an extreme example of a blunder, there’s a lesson there for all of us. Committing a blunder and responding poorly can have catastrophic consequences.

Blunder Causes and Prevention

Blunders occur for many reasons, but here are some of the common problems or oversights that lead to blunders:

  • Cutting corners
  • Rushing
  • Inattention to detail
  • Preoccupation with other things
  • Stress
  • Dishonesty
  • Lack of a moral compass or failure to follow it
  • Failure to put safeguards in place
  • Failure to adhere to established safeguards
  • Having too much on one’s plate
  • Poor oversight or management of others
  • Insufficient training
  • Partnerships with those who don’t share your values
  • Murphy’s Law

As you read through that list of causes, notice that all are avoidable but the last one. But with diligence, honesty, integrity, attention to detail, demonstrating genuine care for others, having good systems and processes in place and following them we can usually avoid most blunders. Obviously, we want to do all we can to avoid mistakes and blunders from occurring in the first place.

But whether we’ve taken the proper precautions or not, what do we do when a blunder occurs?

5 Steps for Recovering from a Blunder Gracefully

  1. Assess the damage. Determine the extent of the damage. How many people does it affect? How serious is the damage? What will be its impact on your business? How will it influence the way people see you? Seek the counsel of others on this matter, so you don’t underestimate the potential damage.
  1. Own up to it. Often, your immediate response to an exposed blunder is to defend yourself, make excuses, or blame someone else. These responses come naturally, especially if the blunder was unintentional. But none of those responses will help you recover. Instead, own the mistake. Take full responsibility for it, even if it was committed by someone else in your organization. Owning up to it demonstrates integrity and honesty. You may even earn a higher level of respect and trust by doing so. Admitting fault also helps you and your constituents move on from there.
  2. Make it right. This may be as simple as offering a sincere apology. But other times, you may need to offer a refund or something for free as an expression of goodwill. If in doubt, ask the person(s), “What can we do to make this right for you?”
  3. Look for the hidden gem. Quite often, if you make a mistake but seek to make amends graciously, you’ll find an unexpected blessing. Your gracious response to a blunder can demonstrate to others the depth of your commitment to them, the soundness of your integrity, or the extent of your care and concern. Look for that hidden jewel and capitalize on it.
  4. Put safeguards in place. If you’re unsure of how the blunder occurred, research it and discover what went wrong. Then, put systems and processes in place to prevent its recurrence.

Mistakes and blunders happen to the best of us. To the extent possible, we want to avoid them. But when they do occur, seek to make them right and do so with all integrity. In this way, you can recover from a blunder gracefully and both you and your tribe will be glad you did.

I’ve been thinking about what I would recommend as the best business to start today.

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Spiritual Foundations

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

James 4:13-15 English Standard Version (ESV)

Feature Presentation: “The Single Best Business to Start (If You Need Money Now)”

While thinking about this idea of the “ideal business”, I ran across an article by John Forde at AWAI. I will link to the article in the show notes. (https://www.awai.com/2009/05/is-copywriting-the-worlds-best-business/)

Forde argued in that article that he has a set of objective criteria for what makes “The Ideal Business” … and these reasons actually go back to an article written in the 1970's by financial guru Richard Russell.

Russell was the writer and publisher of “The Dow Theory Letters”, starting in 1958. Russell died in 2015. But as of the date of his passing, the Dow Theory Letters was the longest-running service continuously written by one person in the business.

So no, he wasn’t writing about copywriting as we know it. And yet – he was a master of the craft.

Anyway, with credit to John Forde and Richard Russell, here are the essential qualities of “the ideal business” for anyone to start.

1. “Sells the World.”
2. Enjoys Inelastic Demand”
3. “Cannot Be Easily Copied”
4. “Has Low Labor and Overhead Costs”
5. “Takes in Cash Billings”
6. “Is Free of All Kinds of Regulation”
7. “Is Portable”
8. “Satisfies Intellectual Needs”
9. “Leaves You With Free Time”
10. “Is Not Limited By Personal Output”

I have two more “reasons why” to add to the list… (these are my own additions.)

Whoever has no rule over his own spirit

Is like a city broken down, without walls.

Proverbs 25:28

Feature Presentation “The Ultimate Plan To Defeat Depression

Hello, depressed Ray. This is the true you writing to remind you what you are feeling is a LIE and you must NOT accept it.  Some things to do:

* Immediately tell Lynn and Sean I’m having a “False Identity Attack” and have them pray for me

* Take communion

* Exercise HARD

* Worship MUSIC LOUD

* Speak Gods truth out loud WITH FEELING

* Activate my prayer network

Read This Out Loud

**Creed of the Unbeatable Man**

When the world would beat me down, when the adversary comes against me, when the darkness seems overwhelming… when the mantle of mediocrity settles on my shoulders and seeks to weigh me down, when the grey and rainy skies won’t relent… when the arrows pierce my armor, the bloodshed seems like a tide, and the odds seem overwhelmingly stacked against me… in these times I will remember:

There is One who is unbeatable, his name is Jesus, and I am a co-heir to his legacy.

Before the world was, he existed and in fact, made the world for his purposes.

I know that in this world I will have trouble, but I take courage because he has overcome the world.

He is never surprised, discouraged, alarmed, or afraid.

He sits at the right hand of his Father, God Almighty, and as Jesus is in heaven, so am I in this world.

In him I am free.

His Spirit, the same Spirit that raised him from the dead… that healed the sick, cleansed the lepers, caused demons to flee, and set right everything that has ever gone wrong or ever will… that same Spirit lives in me.

The Spirit of God leads me into all truth, sets me free, and reminds me that through Jesus I am 100% righteous and worthy to receive God’s love.

I am a saint and not a sinner, I am the light of the world, the city on a hill, the salt of the earth… redeemed, restored, renewed, raised to life… victorious, powerful, rich, healed, saved, delivered… growing in wisdom and favor with men and with God… an heir to the promises of Abraham and his descendants… a son and a friend of God…

Through the finished work of the cross, I am protected, favored, loved, and approved… weighed and found worthy.

I am beyond the reach of sickness, death, judgment, and condemnation.

I may have trouble, but trouble never has me.

I am unpunishable, unashamed, and unafraid.

I am unbeatable.

And so are you.

Have you kept the “gates” up, or are you like a city with its walls broken down? If you’ve gotten off the path (no condemnation, just illuminate and recalibrate), remember…

Ray’s 9-Step Anti-Depression Recipe

1. Prayer daily, as a conversation with God.

2. Practice the awareness of God’s Presence

3. Journaling daily (I use Day One, and a template of questions that I answer each day. I store the template as a TextExpander snippet)

4. Read 5 Psalms and 1 chapter of Proverbs daily (in addition to normal Bible reading/study)

5.  Vigorous Exercise 6 days per week (while listening to powerful, positive UPBEAT worship music – ie, no “I’ve written an ode to my problems” type songs)

6. Daily declarations (speaking out loud the promises of the word, see the book above

7. Keto Diet to regulate blood sugar and neurochemistry

8.  Supplementation (especially Vitamin D and B-Complex)

9.  Tracking mood daily (use MoodTracker App)

If you have more than 3 days in a row, or 3 days out of a week, like this, it’s time to bring in more help (Pastor, Emotion Code RTF, Sozo, Psych, etc).

Belief is a powerful force in the human life. What drives you to do what you do? And what causes you to do the things you don't do?
Placebo effect / Nocebo effect

Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own…

Tip of the Week

CutStory for Instagram- You can take any video you have and it turns them into 15-second clips for your Instagram Story.

Feature Presentation: “The Power Of Belief”

Our beliefs are, in large part, not chosen by us consciously.

Quote from Ayn Rand:

As a human being, you have no choice about the fact that you need a philosophy. Your only choice is whether you define your philosophy by a conscious, rational, disciplined process of thought and scrupulously logical deliberation – or let your subconscious accumulate a junk heap of unwarranted conclusions, false generalizations, undefined contradictions, undigested slogans, unidentified wishes, doubts and fears, thrown together by chance, but integrated by your subconscious into a kind of mongrel philosophy and fused into a single, solid weight: self-doubt, like a ball and chain in the place where your mind's wings should have grown.

How do we form beliefs?
* Sensory data
* what is it?
* what does it mean?
* what should I do?

Beliefs help form
* values
* rules
* behavior
* quality of life

1. My value is in my ability to produce. (My value is in my ability to initiate production.)
2. I have to be the best if I want to lead. (Leadership is bringing out the best in others.)
3. I can’t help people who have more success than me. (I want ALL the people I help to have MORE success than me.)
4. I want no employees because employees equal problems. (Employees help me multiply wealth – for me, themselves, and our clients. Everybody wins)
5. Some people have special gifts no one else can have. (“What one man can do, another man can do.“)
6. The purpose of wealth is to help others. (The purpose of wealth is to show God’s glory – and the”glory of God is a man fully alive”.)
7. Life is hard, and then you die. (In this world we will have trouble – but Jesus has overcome the world.. so we should be encouraged.)

Start noticing your beliefs.
Start questing them.
And if they don’t serve you, start changing them!

To Change any Belief

Undermine the supports
Build support for the new belief
Use the Pain/Pleasure balance
Condition the new belief

Is it possible that by thinking a different way, you could experience life in a totally different way? Can you take control of your thoughts and eradicate depression and create joy?  Today as I interview Cliff Ravenscraft, we discuss living the life of your dreams, what conferences to attend this year, and why you should stop working for God's approval.

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Tip of the Week: Fix Your Podcast Audio

The conference you must attend this fall is the Free the Dream Conference.  This is put on by Cliff Ravenscraft and is being held September 7-9 in Franklin, Tenessee. I will be speaking at it. If you want to change your life for the better, live the life of your dreams and break free from what is holding you back, You need to be at this event!

Go to www.freethedream.live and get your tickets now.

Spiritual Foundations: Be Decisive

There is nothing we can do to get into heaven. We all try to align ourselves with our creator, so we can live in his kingdom by doing things on this earth, and we do not need to do that anymore!  All we need to do is have faith in Jesus Christ. That is the only thing we need to do to enter the kingdom.

In the old covenant with God, we had to have ceremonious sacrifices in order to be cleaned in the eyes of God. When Jesus came, He removed the need for that system. The work was all done by Jesus Christ, and now we no longer have to do it. So now we are just supposed to enjoy God's approval. You are perfect just the way you are. You do not need to be something different. Just be who you are.

Feature Presentation “Change Your Thinking And Change Your Life

After being the Podcast Answer-Man, for so long, Cliff Ravenscraft decided to push that all away, and completely do something totally different. Why? Because he knew he was made to encourage, educate and inspire people and he wanted to help people live their best life. If you have hope, you have influence. Are you living the life that you are created to live? Find a mentor to motivate you and hold you accountable for your actions and your outcome. You have to shift your identity and what you are saying to yourself. Even though there are other people that teach what you may do, only you can do it and reach the people who would identify with you.

Cliff suggests reading the ‘Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks. It teaches you to work within your zone of genius, where you can make the greatest impact. What will it take to get to do the things you love to do 80% of your day. What do you have to do to make that possible? Your language and what you tell yourself is so important. You have to make a decision to do what you want to do with no other possibilities or wavering.

Free the dream is for people who have a dream inside of them that says I wonder what life could be like if I do _____. It is for anyone who is on the fence and doesn't know what their dream is, and also for those who had the dream, left their day job, and are struggling to succeed because they feel sleazy trying to sell their product. Free the dream will help to ignite you and your dream and set it into motion. Go to Cliff's event!

Are you tired of feeling sick, broke or like you are a failure? Today we go through the 12 principles of Think and Grow Rich, how to focus on your one thing, talk about being decisive people like the Disciples, and how to to get the best audio quality in your podcast.

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Tip of the Week: Fix Your Podcast Audio

If your podcast quietly is less than perfect, hire someone to edit it for you. Get rid of distractions and background noise in your audio.  Make your podcast more user-friendly. Danny Ozment, from Emerald City Productions, tells us how important the sound quality of your podcast is. Not only does it help your listeners create a relationship with you, it increases their ability to understand and listen while on the go. Don’t just hire anybody to help edit your podcast, but hire someone who really knows what they are doing.

Spiritual Foundations: Be Decisive

Be a decisive human being. When we are decisive, it demonstrates our faith. We know Who we are, WHOSE we are, and WHAT we stand for. It is easy to make decisions based on our morals and beliefs if we are decisive. Look at the Disciples, Jesus said “Come, follow me” and they did. They didn’t have to pray about it or ask someone if they should- they just did.

Feature Presentation “The One Thing That Causes You To Fail- Or Succeed

What is your one thing?  Napoleon Hill decided to take on the book Think And Grow Rich in a matter of 60-seconds, and he took 20 years to finish it.  Do you think that he was happy that he persevered and finished that project? It became his grand obsession for him, and I can relate. When I took Michael Hyatt’s “Best Year Ever” challenge in 2015, it became my grand obsession. I made having my best year ever, and my best life ever my destiny. If you think your destination is about what is set out for you., you are wrong. Your destiny is where you end up based on the past you decide to take. So, what have you decided your destiny is?

I always suggest people sit down and write out their perfect day to help achieve their destiny.  I want you to sit down and write out every detail of what your perfect day would be. Every detail from the start of your day until your head hits the pillow at night.  It should be at least 3 or 4 pages long.  Were you bold enough? Is it really your perfect day?

Now, you don't need some complicated plan or scheme to accomplish this “perfect day/perfect living”. You just need to focus on your 1 thing- your unique wisdom and knowledge only you have that you can share with others. As John Lee Dumas says- FOCUS.

F-Follow

O- One

C- Course

U- Until

S- Success

And Follow the 12-Principles of Think And Grow Rich

  1. Know what you are after
  2. Have Self-confidence
  3. Use the power of habit force
  4. Take Initiative and leadership
  5. Have imagination
  6. Have enthusiasm

Have you experienced a tragic loss? A devastating blow? A tough break? Have you had a setback? Even a minor inconvenience?

When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011, it seemed like a devastating blow and a tragic loss. Today I want to share how you can beat Parkinson’s – or any other problem you may be facing.

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Tip of the Week: 5 Steps to Get (and STAY) Motivated

  1. Define what you MUST do.
  2. Define the COST of NOT doing it and the REWARD for accomplishing the objective.
  3. Set a deadline, milestones, consequences, and rewards.
  4. Isolate the next action step toward the achievement and do it.
  5. Record, Report, and Renew.

Spiritual Foundations: Charity TowardNone?

Am I suggesting we eradicate charity and replace it with commerce?

Since “no one gets out alive,” how does that impact your response to challenges?

Was Jesus a pessimist?  How to process his statement, “In this world you will have trouble.”

Feature Presentation “7 Principles- How to Beat Parkinson's (Or Anything)

  1. Principle of verbal cognitive framing: Speak what you want to experience.
  2. Principle of possibility thinking: What does this make possible?
  3. Principle of continuous feedback loops: What can you learn from this?
  4. Principle of utilization: How can you use this?
  5. Principle of results modeling: Who else has beaten or overcome this before me?
  6. Principle of commitment and consistency: Who is depending on my victory?
  7. Principle of experimentation: Try. Test. Repeat until victory.

If you want to build a purpose-driven, personality-based online business, blogging should be the cornerstone of your business. And I can think of no one better than Leslie Samuel to discuss this topic.

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Tip of the Week: 3Ways to Be More Productive Instantly

  1. Start using Block Time. Block similar tasks. Batching similar activities and blocking time will make you more productive.
  2. Set yourself up for success. Disconnect from the internet and make yourself distraction-free.
  3. Buy experience. Experience is the best teacher. Doesn’t it make more sense to benefit from the mistakes other people have experienced? Masterminds, online courses, and training programs give you the lessons learned by the experiences of others (without having to endure the difficulty of the experience).

Spiritual Foundations: The Gift of No Condemnation

Romans 8 explains the Gift of No Condemnation, “There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ.”

You should have no guilt. You shouldn’t beat yourself up for your mistakes.

Yes, make amends if you have hurt someone, but feeling guilty should be over.

It is FINISHED. He paid the debt for all your sin…past…present…future.

Some worry that living with no condemnation will cause you to go and sin more.

No, this is not true. If you truly understand this, the Spirit will help you to actually sin less.
Although it seems counterintuitive, stop with the self–loathing and condemnation and realize you’re loaded with peace, love and joy.

Stop self–condemnation and celebrate your righteousness and receive what Jesus has to give you.

Feature Presentation “Why You Should Become a Blogger and How to Do It

  • How stumbling onto a website, “Make Some Money on the Internet” changed my life –Why blogging about a subject you know and love can propel your life in a new direction
  • When I earned $70 online in one day I knew my future would be different – How blogging landed me my dream job as a university professor (even though I didn’t have a PhD)
  • How to make the monumental crossroads decision: should you leave your side business or your job? The wise counsel of my wife and how it has influenced our family, our finances, and our future
  • How to turn your blog into a business – Why great content alone is not enough to build your blog–based business
  • If you are solving a problem, then you have the foundation for a business – How I sold a study guide and advertisements on my site to monetize my blog
  • The Top 3 Most Common Mistakes People Make with Blogging
  1. Business mistake – The problem is they build a huge audience and yet they don’t have anything to sell. Ask yourself, “What problem am I solving?” Many bloggers don’t look at how to transform their blog into a business. A blog isn’t a business, it’s a platform. If you want to make money you have to sell something of value. When there is a button to show you how to buy, you have a business.
  2. Content mistake – The content they create has no plan. The content should attract the right people and lead them in the direction of what you have to sell. This may be common knowledge, but it’s not common practice. I created a course called Blogging Business Foundations to help you learn to attract the right person with the right problem to your business.
  3. Marketing mistake – They don’t have a strategic way to promote their content. They falsely believe, “If I build it they will come.” How are you marketing it? Are you promoting without a specific plan? Pay attention to how others who are successful are marketing their blog and learn from their example.
  • How false information leads to failure – If you have no list, no experience, and you don’t work you’ll fail – Why 80–90% of businesses fail and how to avoid this pitfall.
  • If you’re looking for a magic money bullet this is not for you – How to build a business that allows you to travel, spend more time with your family and make more money than your job.
  • How blogging gives you the freedom to create the life you want and to determine the future you desire – What if you had the financial freedom to spend time with your family and to create only work you love.
  • What if you could make more money in one month than you usually make in a year – Imagine freedom to support your family both financially and by being present in their lives.
  • God’s timing is best – How building my blog-based business gave me freedom to be with my mom in her last days.

Your belief determines your destiny. What you believe about anything determines what you receive, whether it's your life, your business, your personal performance or your identity.

In this episode we're going to unpack why what you believe about yourself is more important than you may have ever suspected. It's not magic, it's just the logical progression of a thought process. We'll uncover this and more during a conversation I'm going to have with my good friend, Cliff Ravenscraft.

Tip of the Week

This week I’m giving you three tips for the price of one. What a deal! If you are an entrepreneur and you're trying to grow your business, or you're a manager in an existing business, there are three big steps to take that will move you along much quicker than just trial and error.

If you are an entrepreneur and you're trying to grow your business, or you're a manager in an existing business, there are three big steps to take that will move you along much quicker than just trial and error.

  1. Know your big reason why. There's a saying that goes something like this, “Once you have a big enough WHY, you  can  overcome  any HOW  that  needs to be  overcome  to  reach  your  objective.”  Knowing your reason why will help you push through the difficult hows that come up.
  2. Accelerate your business growth,  define your beliefs,  your values, and your rules.  This is something most people never bother to do. You must be clear on what your beliefs are about everything in your life, what your values are around the major sections of your life and your business, and what your rules are, to know that you're being consistent or in integrity with your beliefs and values.
  3. Choose your peers carefully. The people you spend the most intentional time with. The people you allow to influence your behavior,  opinions,  thoughts, and feelings.  You need to choose these people very carefully. They need to be people who are on the same path as you are. Maybe not the same business, but the same attitude toward business. The same approach to life.  An optimistic,  hopeful, centered approach to business and life. If the people you're surrounding yourself with most right now are not like that,  it becomes doubly important that you find a mastermind group that you can be part of, that will support you in your personal and business growth going forward. One such mastermind you might consider is our new paid mastermind.  There should still be openings available when this is published.  Maybe there won't be,  but you can find out by going to  rayedwards.com/empire.  If there are still openings,  then you'll be able to apply there. If not, you'll be able to join the waitlist.

Those are your three steps to accelerate your business growth.

Number one, know your big why.

Number two, define your beliefs,  values, and rules.

Number three, choose your peers carefully.

Spiritual Foundations

This week,  we're going to unpack your spiritual Christian baggage.  What do  I mean by Christian baggage?  Well, it grows from a metaphor that my friend,  Frank Viola, shared with me. He calls it the Christian backpack, I call it Christian baggage. It goes something like this,  when you become a  Christian,  when you accept  Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you're told beforehand that it's by grace that you're saved. It's not anything you can earn or deserve, it's given to you as a gift. It's a free gift. All you have to do is accept it.

You  think  to  yourself,  “That  sounds  like  a  great  deal,  I'm  going  to  take  that  deal.” Then once you're “in the club”, the people in the Church begin to tell you what you need to be doing and not doing. They hand you a backpack or a piece of luggage,

and they begin loading it up with bowling balls…sixteen-pound bowling balls.

Those bowling balls come with innocent names like:

  • Small Groups
  • Serving in the Children’s Ministry
  • Missions
  • Tithing
  • Ushering
  • Be here every time the doors open
  • Act like a Christian
  • Don’t Swear
  • Don’t watch TV
  • Here’s what your political views should be

And the list goes on and on. How does it feel to carry around all those bowling balls?

There's no end to the bowling balls that we could add to your baggage, but what this does,  is it chokes off the real fruit of the spirit that you receive when you accept Jesus,  and the holy spirit enters into you.  When that happens,  you're filled with grace, and you're no longer under the requirements of the law. There are no rules for you to follow. Because when you really receive and appreciate the grace that you've been given,  your behavior begins to flow naturally from that. It's not a requirement, it's a supply of grace and ease that flows through you.

If you've been carrying the Christian baggage around, my suggestion is, drop it-just drop it. But the spirit that raised Jesus from the dead manifest himself through you, and you'll begin to see the fruits of that spirit in every part of your life. You won't have

to work on your behavior, your behavior will work on you.

Feature Presentation “What you Believe is What You Receive

What you believe is what you receive. It's true. It sounds mystical, but it's not. It's quite logical. We are going to get right into it with my good friend, Cliff Ravenscraft.

Here are a few snippets from our conversation:

  • What you believe impacts everything – Just because you know something in your head doesn’t mean it you know it in your heart (19:12)
  • Repetition is the Mother of Skill – How to create lasting change (22:06)
  • Sticking your toe in the water doesn’t work – The secret of breaking free from limitation and taking your life to the next level (26:26)
  • Watch your mouth – How the power of words distorts the truth of how we see ourselves (28:30)
  • The value of pain – How to make instant change easy (36:45)
  • The Fat Man returns – Nothing changes until our identity changes (38:30)
  • The birth of a New Identity – How the power of mentorship unleashed a powerful new beginning (42:56)
  • The mirror might be lying to you – How to embrace The Rubber Band Principle (48:05)
  • The 100-Day Dilemma – The destructive power of a temporary identity (50:07)
  • Draw a line in the sand – How to fall in love with the daily grind (58:09)
  • The most powerful force in human psychology – Why it’s important to understand and apply the joy of consistency (63:18)
  • Free the Dream – How to awaken the dormant greatness inside you (66:27)

Spiritual Foundations: You Already Have All the Faith You Need

Like everything else in the Bible, faith is all about Jesus.

He is the author (the maker or creator) of our faith and he is the finisher.

He completes it, fills in the gaps, and strengthens the weak places of our faith. Romans 12:2

The faith of Jesus is all the faith you will ever need!

None of God’s promises are dependent on your effort or level of faith.

You can’t work up enough faith to get the job done.

Tap into the faith of Jesus. His faith is perfect – and it’s all the faith you need!

Feature Presentation “5 Strategies to Make You More Persistent

There is always some measure of persistence in any success story. But giving up offers no hope of success.

Regardless of the outcome, persisting through tough times and overwhelming odds becomes part of the victory. Here are a few reasons to persist:

  • Persistence gets results.

Few things in life worth achieving are gained without persistence. Nearly all successful people
look up to have a long, hard trail of failures behind them, through which they persisted
. The harder you work, the luckier you get.

  • Persistence sets you apart from everyone else.

Anyone can quit. Quitting is the easy way out. Persisting puts you in a whole different

class of the elite.

  • Persistence builds character.

Giving up takes no effort. Giving up gives one a false sense of relief that ultimately

Feels like defeat. Any growth of muscle or character requires resistance training.

  • Persistence always offers some measure of success.

Just by hanging in there, you’ve accomplished more than most. But in quitting there

is no success. Abraham Lincoln, a man all too familiar with failure said, “If you are

resolutely determined to accomplish some thing, the thing is more than half done

already. Always bear in mind that your resolution to succeed is more important

than any other thing.”

But when the bills are piling up and everyone is telling you to hang it up and get a “real job,” it’s hard to persist. How do you maintain persistence in the face of so much apparent failure and resistance?

Here are 5 Strategies for Boosting Persistence:

  • Believe in yourself and what you have to offer.

Sylvester Stallone was rejected by more than 600 casting agents before developing

his Rocky screenplay. His first film took in $117 million (in 1976 dollars) and made

him more than $5 million.

“Belief is the thermostat that regulates what we accomplish in life. A person is a

product of his own thoughts. Believe BIG! Adjust your thermostat forward. Launch

your success offensive with honest, sincere belief that you can succeed. Believe big

and grow big.” — David J. Schwartz from The Magic of Thinking Big

  • Keep trying new things.

Keep trying new things. The Wright Brothers experienced thousands of failed

experiments before getting it right. Discover your niche. Experiment. “The way to
succeed is to double your failure rate.” — Thomas J. Watson, founder of IBM.

  • Redefine failure.

View minor failed experiments as learning experiences. Now you know one more

way not to succeed. Instead, view quitting as a failure. As long as you persist,

you haven’t failed.

  • When you fall, keep getting up.

Expect to fall, trip, and stumble, but keep getting up. And soon you’ll find that your
business is not only walking but running like a gazelle.

  • Don’t listen to naysayers.

When Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield wrote the Chicken Soup for the Soul

series, they were rejected by 140 publishers. Publishers told them the book wouldn’t

Sell. But when the two authors finally landed a contract with a publisher willing to take

a risk, their books sold over 100 million copies! Don’t listen to naysayers. Instead

spend time with those who believe in you, support you, and encourage you.

Persistence is a key ingredient for success. So, keep at it. Don’t give up. Persist, because success is right around the corner.

Have you ever struggled with missed deadlines, hurried work, increased stress, and lost opportunities because of procrastination?

Imagine overcoming procrastination once and for all, so you restore joy for your work, strengthen your relationships, and grow your business.

I once was a great procrastinator.  My motto was, “Hey anything worth doing is worth putting off!”  I felt I was “just wired that way.” But over time, I’ve overcome the Procrastination Plague and you can too. You weren’t “just born that way!”

Click here to download or listen to this episode now.

Tip of the Week: Stop This!

Stop saying you “have to”… you don’t “have to” do anything.

  1. What if I don’t?
  2. If #1 doesn’t cause disaster, why bother?
  3. If it still needs to be done have someone else do it.

Spiritual Foundations

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19, NLT

When Jesus cried out, “It is finished!” the wall of sin that separated us from God crumbled, and God unleashed a flood of His grace upon us. That grace is still flowing toward us today, supplying whatever we need in this life, daily loading us with benefits!

My friend, the essence of God’s grace is SUPPLY. When you are conscious of His supply, instead of the demands of the world, you are under His grace. That’s when you will see His abundant provision for every need and situation.

So if you’re having trouble finding a job, beyond trusting God for employment, see the Lord stirring up the dormant giftings and abilities that He has already placed in you. As you hone these gifts, the Word of God declares that your gifts will unlock doors of opportunities in due season and cause you to stand before great men. Don’t just believe you’ll be employed, believe God to also prepare, grow and develop you for a position of influence in your industry!

Feature Presentation “The Cure for Procrastination

Procrastination is NOT a permanent personality trait. If you tend toward procrastinating, you can change. But first, let’s look at some of the pitfalls of procrastination and why this is such a crucial problem.

Pitfalls of Procrastination

  • Missed deadlines – Customers, clients, vendors, etc. are counting on us to complete a task or project. But when we put off completing that task or project, we fail to meet its deadline.
  • Hurried or sloppy work – When we postpone a project and then rush to try and complete it, our work tends to be second-rate. We miss details and can’t give the project the attention it deserves.
  • Increased stress – When we put off an assignment until the last minute, we sentence ourselves to a life of stress until that assignment is finished. Under stress like that, our health and relationships tend to suffer.
  • Missed opportunities – Entrepreneur Victor Kiam wrote, “Procrastination is opportunity’s natural assassin.” When we put things off till the “eleventh hour,” we’re unprepared to take on new opportunities that present themselves. We’re stuck, trying like mad to finish the obligations that have been piling up and so these new and exciting opportunities pass us by.
  • Defeated attitude – Eventually, the consequences of procrastination catch up with us and get us down. We feel bad about ourselves for all our missed deadlines, the stress we’ve caused ourselves, and for letting others down. We find it hard to climb out of this hole we’ve dug for ourselves.
  • Damaged reputation – Almost without exception, when there are deadlines involved, other people are counting on us. But when we’re late or produce less-than-quality work time and time again, we get a reputation for being unreliable. And that can kill any business.

As you can see, there’s a long, compelling list of the dangers of procrastination. But what causes it? Why do we fall into its trap? A few of the reasons for procrastination might be:

  • Habit
  • Lack of planning
  • Misplaced priorities
  • Distractions
  • Lack of self-discipline
  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of the task itself
  • Unsure of how or where to start on a project

All those reasons and more can lead us into the trap of procrastination. So, let’s focus on the cure!

The Cure for Procrastination

  • Only take on projects that fit. One of the things that promote procrastination is taking on projects that don’t fit our mission, values, or what we enjoy. Accepting these makes us regret it later and we drag our feet. In the end, nobody’s happy.
  • Get it on the calendar. Put your projects, tasks, appointments and any other crucial dates on a calendar that is easy for you to monitor. This is vital for breaking a procrastination habit.
  • Prioritize tasks. Check your calendar often to determine what’s due when. Figure out which projects take priority and tackle them in their priority order. Make a list daily and weekly of what you need to complete to stay on track.
  • Anticipate and eliminate distractions. This takes self-discipline. We especially must resist the temptation to run after those “shiny things” that present themselves to us and distract us from what’s really important.
  • Follow through with action. Action is the antidote for both procrastination and fear. You’ve taken all the above steps, now follow through.
  • Get help when needed. Sometimes a project ends up being much larger than we anticipated. Or perhaps the project involves an expertise that we’re short on. If so, partner with someone to help you and do this early enough that you’re not dragging them past a deadline as well.

Procrastination will ultimately kill our joy for our work, destroy our relationships and undermine our business. If you tend towards procrastination, don’t put off following through with these cures for procrastination!

In our fast-paced and entertainment-saturated culture, it’s easy to let book-reading fall by the wayside. In fact, many studies show that after college, the average person only reads 3 more books for the rest of their life!

And don’t be tempted to think that the reading of books is old-fashioned and no longer relevant. There is power in the written word. And whether you’re an entrepreneur, business person, or simply someone who wants to continue to grow, reading books is an effective way to continue your personal development.

“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” — Charlie “Tremendous” Jones

Tip of the Week

Since developing Parkinson’s in 2011, I have been receiving deep-tissue massage therapy as part of my treatment. I started with once a month, then once a week, and these days I get 3 massages a week. Here’s what this has taught me: your body is the frame through which you see the world. If the frame is bent, twisted, or in pain… you will experience the world that way.

Get over your hangups, and go get a massage from a reputable massage therapist. Try it at least once per week for a month or more and let me know the difference it makes in your life!

Spiritual Foundations

Pray Prayers of Proclamation. When you have a need, do you pray or do you plead? Do you begin your prayers with words like, “Please God, please! God, I beg You to have mercy!” Prayers that plead and beg imply that your heavenly Father is not willing to help you. Yet, He is far more gracious and willing to give to you than you are willing to ask, think or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20) He desires above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. (3 John 1:2)

In fact, long before you have a need, God has already met that need. Long before you knew you needed a Savior, He sent His Son to be your Savior. This is your God! He is a good God. So when you beg Him for something, you are actually saying that He is reluctant to give and needs to be persuaded strongly before He will move. Yet, He is not like that.

Jesus knew the heart of the Father. When He saw the woman bound with a spirit of infirmity, He did not pray, “Oh Father! She has been suffering for 18 long years! I beseech You, Father, have mercy on her. Please, please heal her!” No, when Jesus saw her, He immediately proclaimed, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity!” He spoke this way because He knew the heart of the Father. He knew that the Father wanted her delivered from her crippling condition.

At the end of a church service, I don’t stand and pray, “Oh God, please bless Your people. Oh God, do keep them. Oh God, be ever so gracious to them!” Instead, I proclaim, “The Lord bless you. The Lord keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you!”

Beloved, when you pray, proclaim your healing, protection and provision because your Father’s heart overflows with love for you. And when you declare it, He sanctions it. When you declare it, He establishes it!

Feature Presentation “9 Reasons You Need a Book-Reading Plan

Here are 9 reasons you need a book-reading plan:

  • Reading helps keep you current. Books can help keep you current on business trends and strategies. You can either spend thousands of dollars flying around the country going to seminars and masterminds or spend a few dollars on a book! Consider reading Michael Hyatt’s book, Your Best Year Ever – A 5-Step Plan for Achieving Your Most Important Goals.
  • Provides material for your own writing and podcasting. Reading books offers you fresh information, strategies for presenting that information, and great stories to share with your readers. Read Chris Ducker’s book, The Rise of the Youpreneur.
  • Reading books exercises your brain. Joseph Addison wrote, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” Believe me, in this competitive environment, you don’t want a “flabby” brain!  I challenge you to read a book like, Miracles by Eric Metaxas. I guarantee that book will give your brain a workout.

  • Expands your worldview. Let’s face it. Most of us live and work within a fairly small bubble of relationships. Our market is defined by what and who we know. Reading can broaden our perspective. Consider reading, Blue Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make the Competition Irrelevant by W Chan Kim.
  • Stimulates new ideas. Frequently, I’ll be reading a book and the content I’m reading launches me into a totally new idea. Reading does that! If you need some fresh ideas and new thinking for your business, read a book. Try reading, The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss.
  • Increases your vocabulary and conversational skills. Whether you realize it or not, when you’re reading, your mind assimilates new words and phrases. These new modes of expression become part of your vocabulary and find their way into your conversation without your conscious effort. Read Perry Marshall’s book, Evolution 2.0.
  • Makes you a better writer. When you read a book that’s well written, your own writing begins to take on the qualities that you admire in others. Here’s a book that focuses on writing skills, but also features writing at its best: On Writing Well by William Zinsser.
  • Corrects and/or corroborates your thinking. Reading what others think about a topic can either correct our misconceptions or confirm what we’ve held to be true. A best-selling classic that will either challenge or confirm your beliefs is Lee Strobel’s The Case for a Creator.
  • Enriches your life. So far, we’ve been talking primarily about growing our intellect and our business. But reading for pleasure offers many benefits as well. Reading a book before bedtime is a great way to wind down and relax. Recreational reading opens a whole world of history, intrigue, humor, adventure, and fantasy. Reading kicks the borders off your imagination. Patrick Rothfuss’s epic novel, The Name of the Wind, is sure to provide you with an enriching experience.
    Creating A Reading Plan
  • Commit to read a book a month.
  • Create a list of books that you want to read.
  • Read on an e-device or paper. (Consider the option of highlighting and scribbling notes in the margins of a printed book.)
  • Find a reading buddy.
  • Listen to audiobooks. (The retention rate for listening to a book drops significantly over reading it.)

Tip of the Week

To increase performance, increase expectation.

Discover how mastermind groups, the Habit share app, and coaching programs are all about increasing performance by increasing your expectation and your activity.

Spiritual Foundations

Jesus never gave the sick a sermon first or examined their inner condition first.

He never asked what sin they might have committed to merit their sickness.

This would have been harsh and would have hurt the sick even more.

So, why are we so quick to judge the sick?

Jesus said, “Whoever comes to me, I will not reject.”

This is why it is always wrong to think that illness is a “blessing in disguise.”

Let us remember this, all who came and those who brought the sick and lame to Jesus had a great deal of faith and hope. The Savior welcomes each one who comes to him.

Remember this simple principle: Good things come from God and bad things come from the Devil.

Tip of the Week

How to say “No to someone who won’t take “No” for an answer

Don’t give them an opening. Don’t allow a loophole.

Email templates for saying “No”

#1 The Definitive NO

Name,

Thanks so much for your interest in having me (WHATEVER THEY ARE ASKING),

Unfortunately, due to my existing commitments, my answer is “No.”

Just to prevent any confusion, this answer is “No,” and is not “maybe later” or “check back.”

There is no need to check back. The answer will not change.

Thank you again for asking.

Best of luck in finding (WHATEVER THEY ARE ASKING).

Ray Edwards

# 2 The Next Level NO

Name,

I apologize for not being clear.

The answer is “No,” and the answer will not change.

Anything else you feel you MUST communicate should be directed to my attorney:

ATTORNEY’S CONTACT INFO.

This email marks the end of our communication.

I will not respond to any future emails or other contact, nor will my team.

Not only will we not respond, your messages will be blocked; we will not read them.

I’m sorry the situation came to this. I wish you well.

Ray Edwards

Spiritual Foundations

Doesn’t the Bible say to be content with what you have?

We’re Christian Mythbusters.

Philippians 4:11-13 NLT (New Living Translation)

The Apostle Paul explained, “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.”

You can be content while building wealth, Paul is not saying, “Don’t aspire to having goals or to do things.” He’s saying don’t let your circumstances dictate your mindset.

We’ve just come off two years where we crossed the one million mark in revenue. We’re working on year number three and it looks like a pretty sure bet we’re going to do it again.

I’ve had a lot of questions and we’ve hosted a couple of workshops where we actually show people how we’ve done it.

Today we pull back the curtain and share a behind-the-business discussion to reveal the secrets to:

  • How we got to our first million-dollar year.
  • How we could have done it sooner.
  • Things we would do differently.

Tip of the Week

3 ways to grow your list faster.

  1. Create a lead magnet that no one else is offering. Go and find three successful people in your arena, download and study their lead magnets. Make yours better by asking questions like:
    1. What did they leave out?
    2. What did they include that is unnecessary?
    3. How can you improve the formatting?
  2. Have a contest. The interest and commitment level is going to be lower than your normal opt-in, but remember they are on your site to begin with, because they’re interested in your topic.
  3. Do some list swapping. No, not a product launch where you get your JV partners to mail for you and you pay them. I’m simply suggesting, “If you promote my newsletter to your readers, I’ll promote yours to my readers.”  You both gain.

Spiritual Foundations

Scripture without commentary, Psalm 1:1 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the council of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in it’s season. Whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.”

Feature Presentation “How We Had Our First Million Dollar Year”

  • When you find a sense of urgency you can increase your level of seriousness by a factor of 100 — How to stop screwing around and start acting like you don’t have all the time in the world so you propel your business toward your first million-dollar year.  7:34
  • Why embracing the Roger Bannister principle breaks barriers, rewrites history, and gets you to your goals faster than you ever imagined possible.  8:18
  • If you think it’s harder to become a millionaire or a billionaire than ever before, then you are sadly mistaken — Examine the big bucket of sloppy lies behind excuses like:  “It’s a bad economy. Nobody gets ahead. Nobody will give you a chance. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.” 9:54
  • Why my vow after leaving corporate America held me back for years — How investing heavily in a team empowers you to reach your goals. 10:51
  • The power of a JV launch — Examine how to generate considerable income and grow your list quickly by joining forces in a JV launch.  12:10
  • If you have a singular focus on the million-dollar mark you’re likely to hit that number.  12:56
  • How skill, talent, and reading the marketplace correctly are essential in helping you hit your goals.  13:16
  • Why pricing correctly, knowing what your customer wants and needs and getting your copy correct creates a huge competitive advantage.  13:23
  • Why embracing the Covey concept is essential to growth — How to overcome the dull-axe dilemma.  13:32
  • What I’d do differently — How to increase margins so you keep more of the money. 14:10
  • What I learned about watching expenses, creating accountability, and not building a business based solely on the one pillar income of a JV Launch.  14:48
  • How JV launches help you escape velocity and break free from earth’s gravity of needing more money and more customers.  15:50
  • It’s common knowledge but uncommon practice — Why establishing multiple streams of revenue is wise and shooting the Saturn V rocket over and over is massively inefficient. 16:00
  • Out of the spirit of play comes creativity, and out of creativity comes creation…money, money, money — What if working less and playing more actually fosters business growth. 17:51
  • Consider the influence of “intentional distractions.” — Imagine the impact on your business and your life if you could spend a month in another culture, meeting people with other beliefs, and different approaches to life and business. 18:36
  • Examine what essentialism means in your business — How new ideas, new directions, new things to do may be keeping you distracted from what’s essential in your business. 19:16

Tip of the Week

3 Lead Magnets You Can Create in about One Hour

  • Checklist: Describe steps, or a process, what you always include or exclude…a great example is the checklist for a minimalist traveler: What to Include in Your One Travel Bag
  • Resources list: Tools, books, websites you use that will help others
  • Templates: A done-for-you, simple, fill-in-the-blank resource you use in your business that others will find helpful

Improve the lead magnet by hiring a designer. Do your research, but a designer on a site like Fiverr.com is a good, inexpensive option to improve your lead magnet.

Spiritual Foundations

Why did Jesus come to the world? According to the Bible, He came to the world to reveal the Father, to be a witness of the Father.

As followers of Christ, what is our witness?

We too represent God for others. Our witness of Him to people is how we love others. When we honor, love, and respect others with our words and actions we are accurately reflecting how God sees them. By loving people, we are exposing the potential He put within them to be great, significant, and powerful people.

John 13:34-35,  “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”

So you’ve taken the discipleship classes and attended the cell groups, yet the assignment according to Christ is to LOVE one another.

  • Money is “dirty,” it’s called “filthy lucre,” and people are “filthy rich,” — How our biases about money are revealed in our word choices.

    • Why many believe the height of virtue is being poor — Discover how money doesn’t make you poor and poverty doesn’t make you holy. 12:54

In today’s episode we discuss whether it’s more virtuous to give your products away for free, or to charge for your work.

If a corporation is making 25% profit or more, eyebrows go up and there may be pressure to “give back.” Have you ever wondered about that language? It’s as if this implies they “took it” from someone.

Even someone as successful as Michael Hyatt, has wondered, “Is it more virtuous to give my products away?” This NY Times bestselling author, former CEO of Thomas Nelson, and blogger with over 1 Million readers per month gave his content away during his first three years of blogging.

When he started selling his first ebooks, he struggled with thoughts that he was “selling out.”

But after much consideration, he concluded that it’s essential to charge for your work.

Today I share 8 Reasons Why Charging for Your Work Is More Virtuous than Doing it for Free.

Tip of the Week

This Week’s Tip of the Week is a Christmas gift I finally started using called Tile.  When you use Tile, you’ll never lose anything again.

Place the Tile app on your phone and put the Tile in your car, on your keys, or with anything you might misplace, and you can track the exact location of the tile, so you’ll never have to search for a missing item again.

Spiritual Foundations

John 10:14, 27. Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd;  I know my sheep and my sheep know me. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

In the past, I was troubled when Christians would say,”God told me….”

Since starting on my spiritual  journey, I have examined the stories in the Bible and nowhere does it say that these things (like God speaking) would stop happening. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice.”

Does God still speak today?

I want to encourage you to read the Bible for yourself, not through the lense of your pastor or your denomination, but through an objective lense.

Join us today as we discuss open visions, the audible voice of God, casting pearls before swine, hallucinations, and Parkinson’s disease. You have to hear this wide-ranging discussion for yourself.

I believe God does speak and we his children can hear his voice.

Feature Presentation “Why Selling Your Product Is More Virtuous Than Giving It Away For Free”

  • How to successfully struggle with feelings of selling out — Why it’s essential to ask for value when you give value.

  • If man’s primary purpose is to produce value, then why do we find it difficult to refine and reshape resources (and make a profit)?

  • Why uncovering your thoughts about expectations, value, and entitlement is essential for self-awareness.

  • People’s needs over people’s rights, or people’s rights over people’s needs — How examining your beliefs on this is critical to your worldview.

  • Why the more we pay for it, the more we value it — Understanding the impact of contextual value.

    • The power of social signals — How one famous real estate broker and teacher quadrupled his income by making one simple purchase.

  • Uncovering the problem when something feels “off” — Why leaders need integris lives and how our subconscious is always searching for contradictions.

  • Why it's important to uncover whether money is more than a simple commodity or a trade medium.

  • Why Jesus talked so much about money — What you can learn from the parable of the three servants and their money.

  • Your self-worth and the greatest commandment — If you love your neighbor as yourself you’ll realize this virtue.

  • What world view are you teaching? How expecting to be paid or not expecting to be paid impacts the world.

  • Are you a world-changer? How Apple changed the world (no, it wasn’t by giving it all away).

  • What we can learn from the one character in the Bible who condemned people for not giving to the poor.

  • How to become as rich as possible — Why capitalism and the creation of value have changed the world and why you should be part of it.

Today I want to enter into an interesting discussion Ken MacArthur started on Facebook https://www.facbook.com/marketingtactics.

Ken states, “Serious question, I’ve always been a skeptic. I have no problem under-promising and over-delivering, but I’ve always been hesitant to make a ‘Big Promise.’ Given the current state of the world I live in, I’m more inclined to think things like ‘most people will fail, most of the time when they start something new.’ That’s why babies don’t walk on the first try. Making a ‘big promise’ is part of the sales conversation equation. Some of my mentors find it essential and don’t believe you can close high-ticket sales without one. Obviously, showing value and creating trust impact your sales. The skeptic in me always hesitates to promise anything. Do you ever wrestle with this kind of question?”

Today, I unpack  Ken MacArthur’s crucial question all entrepreneurs and marketers must answer, “Should I make a ‘Big Promise’?”

Tip of the Week

This week’s tip of the week is The Ridge, a wallet that is minimalist without being limited, so you can carry less and always have what you need. It’s RFD protected, so you’re identity will not be stolen.

Check out the EDC Movement, it’s about getting the most out of what you carry (efficiency, utility, and worth). Even if the wallet doesn’t interest you… be sure to check out their website.

Spiritual Foundations

The Spiritual Foundation is from the Sermon on the Mount and follows the theme of today’s podcast, “Are Big, Bold Promises Biblical?”

Uncover what the Bible says in Matthew 5:33-37:

“You have also heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you make to the Lord.’ But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say, ‘By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne. And do not say, ‘By the earth!’ because the earth is his footstool. And do not say, ‘By Jerusalem!’ for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. Do not even say, ‘By my head!’ for you can’t turn one hair white or black. Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.”

Deliver on your promise. If it’s a Big, Bold Promise, good, keep it.

Feature Presentation “Why You MUST Make Big, Bold Promises

  • 5 Reasons to consider making bold promises in your marketing — How to overcome your own skepticism when making the offer and the promise. 13:25

  • Why uncovering how you’re intentionally robbing yourself is crucial to living your most magnificent life.  17:00

  • Throwing your gift on the ground — What really happens when you refuse to step into your most magnificent life. 19:00

  • Discover the one thing that penetrates the cloud of confusion — Successful marketers understand this better than anyone.  20:10

  • Uncover the powerful force you must dismantle in order to grow your business — Overlooking this crucial influence is guaranteed to doom your sales. 23:00

  • The world is made a better place by those who get their “Hopes UP!” 23:30

  • Why this simple yet neglected principle, espoused by Donald Miller, is key to all successful marketing — Change this one element in your marketing and reap the financial rewards …all the way to the bank.  24:24

Time is an interesting resource unlike any other.  Any two people have differing financial resources, and differing skills and talents.  We have different opportunities, different circumstances, and a different network of friends and acquaintances.  But we all have the same number of hours in a day, week, month or year.

When it comes to time, we’re all on level ground.  No one has extra hours stashed away in a savings account for a rainy day.  None of us has the ability to turn the clock back, stop it, or even slow it down.  Our daily allotment of time is a 24-hour-period, or is it?

Today we talk about how we can actually multiply our time.  Learn how to optimize your time today by applying the 4Ps: Planning, Persistence, Patience, and People.

Spiritual Foundations

It’s a curious thing. We love to quote Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” But chances are, you know some Christians who are constantly faced with overwhelming challenges, defeat, tragedy, and sickness. What is happening here?

You see that the promise comes with a condition, “In righteousness you shall be established.”

So it is when we are established in righteousness that we will be far from oppression, terror, tragedy, and not a single weapon formed against us will prosper. How can we possibly be righteous?

It turns out, you already have righteousness. When you receive Jesus as your Savior, you are also given the gift of righteousness, which empowers you to reign in life (Romans 5:17).

You are established in His righteousness.

I believe God wanted us to know that we are righteous by the blood of Jesus, by his perfect work on the cross, so there’s nothing we can do that will add to it or take away from it.

When you feel,”attacked,” afraid, worried, and anxious, remind yourself of who you are in Christ. When you remind yourself of these things, notice how the worry, anxiety, and depression begin to fall away, “you shall not fear, terror shall not come near you.”

One more thing. Belief takes effort.  It’s an action, not a floating generality. As you continue believing and confessing, (speaking out loud) your righteousness in Christ, you’ll get an ever-increasing revelation that will give you the assurance of God’s miraculous provision, his blessing, his divine protection and sovereign grace over your life.

Today I want to cover some new directions for the company and how we’re going to be helping you in new and improved ways.

Don’t worry, we’ll continue to focus on:

  • Copywriting and marketing
  • Building an online business
  • Strengthening your spiritual life

I don’t believe it’s possible to separate the two things, business and spirituality. Because you only have one life, spirituality and prosperity are both part of the same life.

The premise for today’s podcast: Every person listening to this show can and should build a prosperous personal-brand business by following 5 proven phases.

If you get these phases out of order you will have problems. If you are frustrated with lack of traction in building your personal brand online, chances are you’re out of sequence.

  • If you want to start a platform-based, personal-brand business by taking your knowledge, your wisdom, your expertise, and your giftings and you can share them with people (the world) via the power of the Internet.
  • You can establish your global reach for $50-$100 by creating a radio show (podcast), TV show (YouTube channel) and other various ways of having people communicate with you (social media).  (7:11)
  • Many businesses have done just that.
    • Casey Neistat  started out with a video camera and making movies and had no audience, no following, and built a seven million follower YouTube channel. Part of his company was purchased by CNN for $25 million last year.  (8:00)
    • Peter McKinnon, a photographer, cinematographer, and videographer who lives in Canada has built a million subscriber YouTube channel.
    • It’s not just YouTube channels, there are people in all social media markets like Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. You know the names of the people who rule these marketplaces, but you may not know the people in the niches that are getting wealthy serving a small, few thousand people in their particular niche. (9:00)

The internet and the ability to build a personal brand online is the great equalizer of all entrepreneurs.”  Ray Edwards

5 Phases of a Prosperous Business

  1. Determine the meaning of life and the meaning of your business.
  2. Define your mission, your vision, your goals, and your tasks.
  3. Clarify your message. (Who you help, why they need you, what you do that helps)
  4. Create marketing materials. (Marketing that is clear, repeatable, and sticky.)
  5. Collect money.  (Give value first.)

Tip of the Week

It’s common knowledge but it’s not common practice, “Carry a pen and a notebook with you at all times.”

The reasons for your pen and notebook:

  • Be ready when inspiration strikes.
  • You can always count on a pen and paper (unlike the internet or electricity).
  • A pen and paper don’t make unexpected interruptions or distractions (no software updates, wait time, or computer bug).

Capturing your thoughts and your best ideas is invaluable.

If you’re a writer, this is required. “ Writers are the ones with the pens and the notebooks.” (4:40)

Spiritual Foundations

The Dream… Should you pursue your dreams?  God is the giver of dreams.

  • He places the talents and gifts within you.
  • He spurs you on to have the motivation to go out and give those gifts to the world.
  • Commerce, the marketplace, and capitalism are all God’s ideas.  (2:37)

Proverbs 18:16, “A man’s gifts make room for him and brings him before great men.”

“The world needs your message.” — Ray Edwards

  • God gave you your gift, not for you but for others.
  • Your gift makes room for you and it brings you before great men and women.
  • In God’s kingdom, it is always fair but it’s not always equal.
  • According to your gifting will be the opportunity. (4:14)

It’s up to you whether you’re going to seize your gift and take advantage of it or not. God intended your gift for your benefit and others. I think you should grab hold of it and make the most of it.

  • Uncover the clues to your mission – How what you love to do, what you love to see, and the people you love to be around are the keys to your vision.  (27:55)
  • My objective is to end poverty.  My vision of how to make that happen is to teach entrepreneurs and empower them to grow their prosperity and create more wealth. (28:20)
  • Writing down your goals and setting numeric goals (even the Bible kept records of numbers) – How one-year goals related to your tribe is a great place to start.  (30:15)
  • Mission+Vision+Discipline = Destiny  (31:50)
  • It’s never too late to change your destiny.  (32:30)
  • Why messaging is phase 3 of successfully building a personal brand business – How phase 1 and phase 2 are crucial to your messaging (phase 3).  (33:50)
  • Ready to leave your corporate life?  How to create your personal brand by harnessing the power of the internet through global distribution of your wisdom, experience, and gifts.  (36:23)
  • “Does this sound like you?” – How to instantly connect with your customer even if you have no formal training in writing sales copy, launching products, or selling to people. (38:00)
  • How learning to write sales copy refines your business and helps you build it bigger with more success, easier, and faster.  (39:24)
  • Money is phase five of your personal brand business – How to “Begin with the end in mind.” Not, “Begin with the end in your pocket.”  (42:14)
  • Put the fuel in first, stoke the flames, and then you get the heat – How profits follow work and why money is phase five of building a personal brand business. (42:50)

Outsourcing is so hot right now. I blame Tim Ferriss’ book, The 4 Hour Workweek and Chris Ducker’s book, Virtual Freedom for starting the outsourcing phenomenon. In Tim’s book he tells you why you should do it and Chris tells you how to do it. In fact, Chris Ducker has a new book for entrepreneurs entitled, The Rise of the Youpreneur.

This outsourcing topic started during a recent consultation I had with Mike Kim. We discussed the theme of each of my recent years. 2015 was the year my fitness journey began, and I lost 70 lbs. In 2016 I lost an additional 15 lbs.

So, four years after my diagnosis, I realized the one proven weapon I had against Parkinson’s disease was exercise and fitness. Drugs and surgery only affect the symptoms of the disease.  Scientific evidence has proven that exercise slows down the progression of Parkinson’s disease and may even reverse the damage already done in the brain. I cannot outsource physical exercise. No one can do the pushups or road work for me.

Spiritual Foundations

I’ve been having lots of conversations lately about grace and Christianity.

No, I’m not talking about the judging and protesting brand of Christianity. I’m talking about the grace-offered-by-Jesus-over-2000-years-ago Christianity.

Grace is “favor you get without earning it.” It’s possible to earn forgiveness, but it’s not possible to earn grace.

When Paul discusses grace in 1 Corinthians 6:12, he states, “All things are lawful for me but not all are helpful.”  When this was written, the Corinthian Church had gone wacko. They were engaging in outrageous sin such as the practice of sleeping with their mother in law and having sex with temple prostitutes.

Paul was stating that grace means all things are lawful, but all things are not going to grow you or develop you. Grace is not a license to sin. Although many people believe this concept of grace, they shy away from teaching it out of fear of appearing to give people permission to sin.

Feature Presentation “The One Thing You Can't Outsource”

We always have time for what we prioritize as important – How we make excuses for not doing the things we don’t value. (11:30)

You always have time for what’s important – How self-discipline is the key characteristic in each zone of progress. (11:32)

Paul struggled with self-discipline – Why the thing I want to do, I don’t do. The thing I hate, I do.  (13:10)

You aren’t born with a finite amount of self-discipline – How to increase your capacity for self-discipline with a 3-step plan. (13:43)

We are wired for our survival to avoid pain – Why human nature places chasing after pleasure as secondary. (15:40)

Why we allow momentary, fleeting pleasure to sidetrack our long-term gain – Learn how anyone can increase capacity for self-discipline. (16:19)

Most people are not happy, yet they’re not unhappy enough to do something about it. (20:40)

The power of transformation hinges on changing your view of pain and pleasure. (23:09)

Spiritual Foundations

An indicator of someone’s character and integrity is how they handle their possessions. Paul stated in Philippians 4, “I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Paul was actually talking about wealth in this circumstance. He was saying, “I've had a lot and I’ve had very little, and I’ve learned to be content in both circumstances. I can handle either situation through Christ who strengthens me.” Powerful advice! (3:00)

Feature Presentation “Profit First- An Interview With Mike Michalowicz”

Out of a hundred people who hear this, one of you will do this and you’re the one who will succeed.

I have a question that I would seriously like you to think about. Are you important? Are you? This is a vital question and it speaks to something we call self-image. It’s popular to believe that your self-image, having a good self-image, a strong self-image, a positive image of yourself is wrong. It’s popular to say that. This is the first line of attack of the enemy, trying to deceive your mind by convincing you that you’re not important.

Spiritual Foundations

The Book of Mark, chapter 12, “Then, one of the scribes came and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that he had answered them well, asked Jesus, “Which is the first commandment of all?”

Jesus answered him,

1. “The first of all the commandments is, ‘Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one and you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.”

2. “The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

According to Jesus, if you want to love your neighbor, what do you have to do first?

• If we adopt the mindset, “I’m a worm and everyone else is awesome,” and then, we're told to love our neighbor as ourselves, we must first love ourselves. Not in the sense, “Oh, I guess I'm okay.” God is not contradictory.

• If you worship God as the all-sufficient Creator and Father, then, you're doing no service to the Artist by condemning His art. Now, think about this: you’re doing no service to yourself by calling something beautiful (you), ugly.

• “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” and then, he said, “There is no other commandment greater than these.” That's strong language. No other commandment, not even your favorite one, whatever that might be.

Are you important?

In Romans 12:3, Paul says to the church of Rome, “Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don't think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.”

Now, this verse is often quoted to communicate, “Think poorly of yourself.” But it says, “Don't think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.”  He's saying, “Take an honest assessment of yourself and think that.”

Just before that verse, Jesus gives you a plan of self-improvement. Paul says, “Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world (the system of thinking that is present in the world today), but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” His will for you is for you to be good and pleasing and perfect, a plan for self-improvement.

Tip of the Week

I’m about ready to abandon Evernote. Evernote, of course, is a note-taking application.

Here’s the thing that’s been bugging me lately. Evernote has its own proprietary way of storing your stuff.

You’re locked in and I think of it as a “roach motel.” Your documents go in, but they never come out.

I think I’m going to replace it with a new note-taking application called Bear, B-E-A-R. Here’s the reason why:

• It uses plain text files to store all your documents.

• It uses markup to do any formatting, so it exports to any other application.

• There’s no translation problem getting into virtually any other application.

• They have a special function to help you export all your notes out of Evernote into Bear.

• You can preserve your tags.

• You can get your notes into plain text files so they’re portable. So, no matter what happens in the future, you future-proof your documents.

Feature Presentation “Are You Important?”

The three reasons to get your self-image healthy and robust:

1. We limit ourselves by the imagery we hold of what we're capable of doing.

2. Our self-image is self-constructed, made of our words, the pictures we hold in our mind and our actions or our physical environment.

3. You grow your life by growing your self-image, not just making it better but making it bigger.

Our self-image is self-constructed. Dr. Denis Waitley says, “Relentless repetitive self-talk is what changes our self-image.” What are you saying to yourself all the time?

The most powerful force in the human psyche is people's need for their words and actions to remain consistent with how we define ourselves.

If we have this belief that we suck and that we're bad, then, we will work very hard to make that consistent in our lives. Our brains want consistency. It all starts with how we see ourselves.

Our self-image is self-constructed made of our words, pictures and actions, our physical environment, and our beliefs, which lead to our values, which lead to our rules, which lead to our actions, which lead us to our destiny. Destiny is a big word that people think is grandiose, all it means is destination, where you're headed.

What do you do with all this super philosophical stuff? You should get out a journal and write this stuff down.

A friend of ours, Dave Lakhani, says, “Writing is the doing part of thinking.”

If you don't write it down and just think it, you haven't really done the work.

There's something about transferring it from your brain through your hands to the paper that solidifies and crystallizes your thinking and gives you a level of understanding and commitment to the ideas that you wouldn't have otherwise.

JOURNAL the answer to these questions:

1. If you had a bigger vision for your life, what would it look like now? Nobody else is going to read this, so go nuts.

2. Construct the person you want to become. Now, I'm going to offend some of my friends who teach goal setting, but don’t worry about specific outcomes. Concern yourself with who you want to become and the values that underpin that image.

3. Grow your self-image intentionally. Write out your plan for how you're going to grow your self-image intentionally.

Perhaps there are things that you want to do, you want to achieve, instead of just thinking about them. This is where people get all screwed up. They think, “Well, I want to travel the world and visit every continent.” They start immediately thinking about, how do I do that? When what they really should be thinking about is, who do I have to become in order to make that happen?

Because if you don't become the person who can achieve that thing, you will never achieve it.

Questions to ask yourself:

1. Is this desire something that sustains my life?

2. Am I trying to win the approval of someone in my life?

3. Am I trying to prove to the world around me that I am successful?

Well, when you're on your deathbed, are you really going to care whether people thought you were successful?

What other people think of you is none of your business.

No, it doesn't matter. It's what you want in life, not what you think other people want you to want in life.

“Learn to value yourself, which means fight for your happiness,” Ayn Rand

I have a proposal for you in today's episode: You have in your life what you tolerate.

What you tolerate is what you receive in life.

I already know there are a lot of people who are coming up with examples to prove me wrong. There are people saying, “Well I have a genetic disorder that I had no control over. I could not have stopped it. I did not want this.” No, but the way you deal with it, the way you process it, and the way that you experience it is up to you.

That's not genetic. That's not something you can blame on your ancestors. That's all you, my friend. If I sound fired up, I am.

I'm not angry but I am advocating for a different view on your behalf. That is, that if you're unhappy in your life, if you're dissatisfied with any part of your life, the thing you most need to do is stop tolerating that!

That's what today's episode is about.

Spiritual Foundations

For Spiritual Foundations, I'm just going to grab a little segment from the Book of Revelation. There's a lot of controversy over this book. There's a part of the Book of Revelation where Jesus is writing letters to seven churches.

Most scholars and early church fathers believe the churches were real churches in the area. But they also represent the church as a whole, over time. There's one letter in particular where Jesus writes to one church and says to them, “You are lukewarm. I wish that you were either hot or cold but you're lukewarm and I want to spit you out of my mouth.”  Revelation 3:16

If you translated this more viscerally from the original language, it would say, “You're like lukewarm water. You're not hot or cold, you make me want to vomit.”

What does that have to do with today's topic? Everything, because what I think Jesus was saying to this church is, “You guys tolerate everything. You don't get upset on either end of the spectrum. You're not like total libertines just doing whatever you want. You're not crazy legalists who are looking for the smallest, tiniest, little sin you can condemn in people. You're just in the middle. You're not committed to anything. You tolerate everything, you make me want to puke.”

Now if Jesus felt that about His church, isn't that a lens through which we might look at our life? I'm not suggesting that you should look at your life and feel bad about yourself, but maybe it's time to question what you tolerate.

Tip of the Week

My tip of the week is another geeky, techno tip.

It's a piece of gear that I'm using these days. We're shooting some video for a big product launch that we're doing soon. I was going to hire a video crew and I just decided, “You know what? I enjoy this stuff so much. I'm just going to do it myself.”

You’ve heard us talk about it before in the show, it is the Panasonic GH5.

It's like having a million-dollar studio in your camera bag (yet you only paid a couple of thousand dollars for it).

It has the capability of shooting 4K video at 60 frames per second. There are very few consumer level cameras able to do that. That means you get this fantastic resolution with crisp, sharp pictures and video. Even more exciting to me, I've just discovered that I'm able to shoot 180 frames per second slow-motion video, which means it is crystal clear and buttery smooth.

This camera is really a technological marvel. For some baffling reason, with the GH5S, Panasonic degraded the in-camera stabilization, which is one of the greatest advantages of the GH5 other than the 4K and the super slo-mo. My opinion is: don't get the GH5S, get the GH5.

Today’s podcast is a lesson in the history of marketing online. I believe there is great value in knowing the history of our industry.

Most of you in direct response internet marketing may not know we owe our careers to Ken McCarthy. Time Magazine credits Ken McCarthy with originating the idea of using click-through rates as the key metric of website performance.

In the early 1990s, as the owner of a direct response company, Ken saw the potential of direct marketing on the internet even as software CEOs, internet enthusiasts, and advertising executives all failed to grasp the power of commercializing the internet.

In 1994, Ken organized and sponsored the first conference ever held on the commercial applications of the World Wide Web. Marc Andreessen, co-author of Mosaic and co-founder of Netscape was one of the twelve attendees of this world changing conference.

Ken’s early internet marketing experiments included email advertising, contributions to development of the banner ad, pay-per-click advertising and internet video.

Ken’s success was built on anticipating changes in the internet during the Golden Age of Innovation. A true visionary, he shares his fascinating insider's stories from the early years of the World Wide Web.

We’re talking about prosperity. That’s the word of the year with my company and with me.

What does it mean to prosper? We know that it means to do well financially, but it’s so much more than that. It’s your health, your relationships, it’s the ways you are fulfilled in life (such as growing as a person and contributing in a meaningful way to other people).

Prosperity is a fullness of life and a fulfilling way of living in every way possible.

Spiritual Foundations

This week, I’m reading from Psalm 1 (the New Living Translation).

“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on in day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

Tip of the Week

One of my goals this year is to read through the Bible again in a year. My tip of the week is the Daily Audio Bible Mobile app. I used the Daily Audio Bible app last year. The new mobile app is a very pleasant and nearly effortless way to read through the Bible in a year. Brian, the guy who does the reading, is an excellent reader, that makes all the difference. He reads different translations throughout the year. The Daily Audio Bible Mobile app is available for android or iOS.

Feature Presentation: “The Pathway To Prosperity This Year”

As I’ve been writing my book, Permission to Prosper, I’ve been thinking about how one can be more intentionally prosperous. For instance, let’s take Psalm one at face value, and recognize that if we’re in the group that God refers to as the righteous, then we are like trees planted by the river and everything we do prospers. That’s what He wants for us. The world is not perfect, of course, but what He wants for us is for us to prosper in all that we do.

How do we do that?

I’ve developed a 7 Step Prosperity Practice you can engage in every day as part of your morning routine. This practice will move you in the direction of your goals and dreams.

This is an amalgam of wisdom that I’ve learned from other people (great passages of Scripture and books by people like Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins, and Brian Tracy).

I practice these seven steps everyday.

They are constructed in a way that is meant to mirror the actual needs of your psychological self. If you’re familiar with Tony Robbins’ Six Human Needs psychology, then you know his hypothesis is that we have six psychological needs that are wired into our nervous system. So, the steps I’ve chosen are not arbitrary.

7 Step Prosperity Practice

  1. Calibrate Your State      The three components for putting yourself into peak state are:
    • Physical – what you do with your body (get moving and breathing)
    • Mental – what you do with your mind (practice gratitude)
    • Verbal – what you speak out of your mouth (declare truths over your life)
  2. Experience Gratitude
Close your eyes and let gratitude flood your body and your mind.
  3. Match Your Desire with Clarity
Review your goals and visualize experiencing the outcome of those goals.
  4.  Address Problems as QuestionsTransform the problem in your mind from a problem to a question and ask …
    • What’s great about this problem?
    • What can I learn from this?
    • What’s not perfect yet?
    • What am I willing to do to make it the way I want it?
    • What am I not willing to do to make it the way I want it?
    • What does this make possible?
    • How can I enjoy the process of dealing with this situation?
  5. Contribute in Some Way
Contribute in some way to the joy, peace, and prosperity of another human being.
  6. Make a Connection with Other People by Being Present with Them
Look them in the eyes, listen to them, value their presence and be present.
  7. Learn Something New Every Day
Learn a new word, a Bible verse, a scientific fact or tidbit.

Each morning, in my journal I write down the answers to the seven questions based on my 10 Minute Prosperity Practice Journal Template.

It only takes me about 10 to 15 minutes to write all of this down, but writing it down is where the value is. As Dave McCullough says, “Writing is the doing part of thinking.” You haven’t done it until you write it down. It’s not real until you write it down.

If you want my 10 Minute Prosperity Practice Journal Template, then simply text the word “prosper” to 33444.

(You’ll also receive an invitation to join our Facebook community for Permission to Prosper. I’ll be sharing more about the upcoming book. If you join our community, you may get an early glimpse of the book.)

Remember the word this year is PROSPERITY.

Here are some snippets from our conversation:

The relationship between goals and prosperity – Why you are focusing on prosperity whether you have any money goals or not. 1:12

A seismic shift in thinking – Uncovering the catalyst that's guaranteed to change your attitude about goals, intentions and resolutions. 2:11

Prosperity is a choice – How to be intentionally prosperous in the new year. 7:21

The power of our six psychological needs – Discovering how meeting them in a low-class way makes you unhappy. 7:57

The 7 Step Prosperity Practice – Creating this morning routine will move you toward your goals and desires. 8:52

This week is a special edition of the podcast.

It’s 100% Spiritual Foundations – so, if you’re not into that, you may want to skip this one. During today’s episode…

* The one theme found throughout the Bible that applies to your goals, dreams, and desires.
